Most of women’s contributions are still invisible in the various national accounts as well as in the economics discipline. In fact, various studies across the globe have established that women’s work is not properly recorded, rewarded or recognized. In the mainstream economic framework, there is no place for women’s unpaid productive work, care activities, volunteer work, etc., because of the restricted definition of economic activities as bounded by exchange value. In recent years there have been many attempts by feminists, social scientists, economists and others to correct this drawback.
The present study focuses on valuing women’s unpaid household work by using various techniques. This study is an attempt to appreciate the value of non-market work of Manipuri women.
