Voices of Iran: Memoirs of Iranians Diasporic Writers
The works of fiction and life narratives by Iranian diasporic writers have proved to be successful in creating a space in-between, blending Iranian and American cultures and commenting on both from a unique position and perspective. The growing literary production of the Iranian diaspora was a way to reflect on the changes in Iran and in the lives of those who left the country. The changed conditions in the life of women after the revolution of 1979 brought a new attitude in narratives written in the form of memoirs that offer insight into the history, memories and feelings of an individual. Memoirs written by Azar Nafisi, Azadeh Moaveni and Shirin Ebadi, though differ in terms of generation, class, diaspora , ethnicity and placement, depicts women experiences living in Iran during the years surrounding the 1979 Islamic Revolution. They have spoken clearly and strongly for their native Iran but their voice has resonated far beyond its borders.
