"Not many studies are conducted on how women are affected when men become alcoholics. Alcoholism of men becomes the reason and very often the excuse for oppressing women. Not many activists of women\'s organizations have realized this, and if at all they have realized, not much has been done, except in some stray cases.
No doubt, alcoholism has its negative impact on the family life of an addict. It is a \'disease\' that has the whole family as victim. It causes financial drain and is responsible for marital disharmony. An alcoholic fails to attend to the present needs of the family like healthcare and education of children.
This book makes an extensive study of the problem of alcoholism. It introduces the global scenario and the problems are evils connected with alcoholism sequentially presented in nine chapters. It shows how women can be affected when she herself may not be an alcoholic. This book will certainly create awareness among the public on the need to fight the evils of alcoholism." (jacket)
