"Women, across the world, but not only in India, have been regarded occupying inferior position to men. Despite liberty and equal opportunity granted to women in terms of participation and contests of elections, women\'s involvement in elected decision making bodies have hanged about only near to the ground but in several occasions they are deprived from it. For this, a proposal was taken in 1988 from reservation of seats for women in self-governing bodies. Almost all major political parties in India in their political memifestoes have promised 30 percent reservation for women. However, the situation largely remains far from satisfactory.

The book has been written in broader perspective in view of above stated facts about women\'s participation in politics." (jacket)
