Women Leaders in India
Women, through the ages, have proved that they are second to none yet their plight is far from satisfactory. Aim of this study is to present to our readers some of the women leaders of India both past and present who according to their own light, made their humble contribution. The treatment of the subject is alphabetical and not chronological.
We have included in this book a brief description of women like Ahilyabai Holkar, Jhalkari Bai, Jijabai, Rani Jhansi, Hazrat Mahal and Kittur Rani Chennamma. European women like Annie Besant and Mira Behn too find their services recorded. Revolutionary women like Aruna Asaf Ali, Bhikaji Cama, Lakshmi Sehgal have not been left out. Kasturba Gandhi, Kamla Nehru and Lalita Shastri’s suffering have also been recorded. We have also included the contribution of a number of contemporary women leaders like Jayalalitha, Mamta Banerjee, Mayawati, Meira Kumar, Najma Heptualla, Sheila Dikshit, Sonia Gandhi, Sushma Swaraj, Vijayaraje Scindia to name some.
We at the Life Span Research Foundation salute these and many more unsung and unheard women who have made India pride.
