The status of women is an index of socioeconomic and cultural achievements in a country. Petty trading is one of the most rapidly growing economic activities in the Indian urban economy, during the past few decades. Petty traders can be divided into three categories i.e., street vendors, small petty vendors and petty vendors. Against the background an attempt has been made to study the functioning of three categories, in two different types of activities, i.e. fish vending and vegetable vending in Visakhapatnam city. One main objective of this study is to analyse the profits earned by women vendors with respect to seasonal variations and also to focus on determents like availability of working capital, literary and age.
Such micro level studies one of great significance as they reveal drawings, which in turn helps in evolving appropriate policies and measures particularly to improve to role of women in the urban informal sector. Definitely this book will be useful for academicians and policy makers, in these days of decentralized planning, emphasis on inclusive growth and women empowerment.
